Life is a twin track. We get the smooth and rough, the good and bad, and the ups and downs.

This year has tipped in one direction. It’s a derailment of epic proportions.

It feels so easy to recall the pains: losing a parent, health struggles, unemployment, disengaged family and friends and lots more. Oftentimes it can be sickly seeing others seemingly glide merrily through the year with job promotions, life partners, children and homes shared joyously on social media.

Yet, we can choose to remember the beauty of this year. Personally, I have never had so much solo time. Surprisingly, I don’t mind it much. I have learned to love living with myself. I learned to care for myself and walk again — literally and metaphorically. I reorganised my home and created a restful haven. I gardened and enjoyed the harvest that followed. I discovered the countryside walks (and the best cider ever) minutes from my door. I excelled in a course with a top business school.

The preparation for what arrives next continues. We can proceed on life’s twin track doing our bit diligently; and with humility, allowing dame destiny to work herself out. In the hope that the journey flips towards our best life yet, let go.
